Cooper the Cougar

$850.00

Product Description

Meet Cooper, a very self assured, life sized paper mache cougar. He's all at once a mountain lion, a puma, a cougar and a very cool cat. Cooper was sculpted using a traditional paper mache pulp construction over a hardened plaster cloth base then dried to a durable hard shell finish.

It was cold outside my studio when he was being created and I draped a spare cloth around his neck to keep him warm and had a chuckle…when he was ready to paint I removed the “scarf” and he just didn’t feel complete so I added a permanent one, giving him an instant ‘cool factor’. Cooper is sculpted of paper mache and plaster clay, hand painted and hand finished. He’s tough, but needs to remain indoors while being displayed.

This sculpture is an original, one-of-a-kind creation, never copied or mass produced.

Care

This sculpture is crafted with a hand made paper fiber and plaster clay that hardens to a tough shell finish. After drying, it is then sanded (if necessary) hand painted and coated with a clear matte finish that makes it water resistant. Though this finishing process adds another layer of protection to the finished piece, it is not water proof and is intended for indoor use only. Do not expose it to extreme moisture or heat.

Paper mache is a tough but relatively lightweight material. Mishandling can create chips, scuffs or cracks. Treated with care it will last decades.

This piece requires little care. To clean, simply wipe with a damp cloth.

Special Note

I’ve always had a passion for things with a history. Old, worn, well loved things just seem to evoke a sense of purpose and meaning in me that isn’t found with new materials. Working with paper, creating plaster clay and incorporating other vintage items in my work is a wonderful way to create pieces with personality and soul.

I hope you enjoy this piece as much as I enjoyed creating it!
