Gracie the Giraffe

$1,800.00

Product Description

Meet Gracie. I sculpted this life sized giraffe after seeing April the giraffe during her pregnancy at Animal Adventure Park in New York. What an incredibly graceful animal the giraffe!

She is sculpted to look as though she's coming through the wall to say hello. Gracie’s mane is soft to the touch and she has eyelashes of real hair. This is a rather large piece, approximately 3 feet long and will therefore look best hanging high on the wall. Though she has been hand painted and has a polyurethane finish, she should be placed indoors only.

This sculpture is an original, one-of-a-kind creation, never copied or mass produced.

Note: Giraffe numbers have declined by approximately 40% in the last 30 years. With only less than 100,000 giraffes remaining in the wild, they need our help. Giraffes are now listed as ‘vulnerable to extinction’ on the IUCN Red List.

Care

This sculpture is crafted with a hand made paper fiber and plaster clay that hardens to a tough shell finish. After drying, it is then sanded (if necessary) hand painted and coated with a clear matte finish that makes it water resistant. Though this finishing process adds another layer of protection to the finished piece, it is not water proof and is intended for indoor use only. Do not expose it to extreme moisture or heat.

Paper mache is a tough but relatively lightweight material. Mishandling can create chips, scuffs or cracks. Treated with care it will last decades.

This piece requires little care. To clean, simply wipe with a damp cloth.

Special Note

I’ve always had a passion for things with a history. Old, worn, well loved things just seem to evoke a sense of purpose and meaning in me that isn’t found with new materials. Working with paper, creating plaster clay and incorporating other vintage items in my work is a wonderful way to create pieces with personality and soul.

I hope you enjoy this piece as much as I enjoyed creating it!
